What is Back Pain?

Back pain is a common condition characterized by discomfort or distress in any area of the back, often resulting from strain or tension in the muscles or ligaments.

Typical causes of back pain include poor posture, lifting heavy objects improperly, aging, and conditions like arthritis, osteoporosis, and herniated discs.

Symptoms can include muscle ache, stabbing or shooting pain, limited flexibility or range of motion, and an inability to stand upright without discomfort.

Diagnosis typically involves a physical exam, patient history, and if necessary, imaging tests like X-rays, CT scans, or MRIs to identify underlying conditions.

Conservative treatments include physical therapy, over-the-counter pain relievers, hot or cold therapy, maintaining a healthy weight, and practicing good posture.

Interventional treatments can include nerve blocks, steroid injections, radiofrequency ablation, regenerative medicine approaches, and in severe cases, surgery.

The goal is to reduce or eliminate pain, improve function and mobility, and prevent future back problems or injuries.
