What is Myofascial Pain Syndrome?

Myofascial Pain Syndrome is a chronic pain disorder where pressure on sensitive points in your muscles causes pain across different parts of your body.

The syndrome often results from muscle injury, or excessive strain on a particular muscle or muscle group, particularly ligaments and tendons.

Symptoms needing management include deep, aching muscle pain that is persistent, tender knots, and sleep disturbances due to pain.

Diagnosis involves a physical examination, patient history, and identifying and evaluating problematic trigger points.

Conservative treatments include physical therapy, exercise, heat therapy, and non-prescription pain relievers.

Interventional treatments can include trigger point injections, massage therapy, or dry needling.

The goal is to alleviate pain, release muscle tension, and restore muscle function.
